Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Mahābhārata Cosmos and other pages, apps and services under Vedatom (together, "the Service", "we", "us"). By accessing or using the Service — on the web or as an installed app — you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

The Service

Mahābhārata Cosmos is an educational, interactive presentation of the Mahābhārata — a constellation of its figures, tales, teachings, kingdoms and weapons, with reading paths, quizzes and guided tours. It is a work of scholarship and synthesis for study and enjoyment. We may add, change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice.

Educational & scholarly note

The Service draws on the Pune Critical Edition and public-domain translations, with Purāṇic and folk material flagged where it appears. All English renderings, commentary, structure, groupings and interpretations are our own. Content is provided for general educational purposes; different traditions and recensions of the epic vary, and nothing here is offered as religious authority or professional advice.

Permitted use

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your own non-commercial study and enjoyment, subject to these Terms.

What you may not do

• Copy, scrape, republish, sell, sub-licence or commercially exploit the Service or its content without our written permission.
• Create derivative works from, or systematically extract, the text, data, artwork or code of the Service.
• Remove or alter any copyright, trademark or attribution notices.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to, disrupt, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service or its infrastructure.
• Use the Service in any way that breaks applicable law or infringes the rights of others.

Intellectual property

The underlying Mahābhārata is an ancient text in the public domain. However, the original expression of this Service — its written summaries, commentary, translations, selection and arrangement of material, visual design, artwork, software and the "Vedatom" and "Mahābhārata Cosmos" names and marks — is owned by Vedatom and protected by copyright and other laws. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

Purchases & subscriptions

Parts of the Service are free to explore; deeper features may require a one-time purchase or a subscription. Where paid access is offered, the price, billing period and what is included will be shown before you buy, and applicable taxes (such as GST) may be added. Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are also subject to that store's terms, and billing, renewals and refunds for those purchases are handled by the store under its policies.

Advertising & third-party links

The Service may display advertising and may link to third-party sites and services we do not control. We are not responsible for the content, products, or practices of third parties, and their terms and privacy policies govern your use of them. How advertising and analytics data are handled is described in our Privacy Policy.

Your content & feedback

Your reading progress is stored on your own device (see the Privacy Policy). If you send us feedback, suggestions or ideas, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use them to improve the Service, without obligation to you.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. You use the Service at your own discretion and risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vedatom and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or ₹1,000, whichever is greater.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Vedatom from any claims, losses or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or breach of these Terms.

Termination

We may suspend or end your access to the Service at any time if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and indemnity — will continue to apply.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at the operator's place of business in India will have exclusive jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Nothing here removes any mandatory consumer rights you have under the law of your own country.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision, and your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
